Heaven is Here

You’re welcome to come to my heaven. It’s like regular heaven, but with more smiles, hugs, and rainbows. You can be who you want to be and love who you want to love. It’s also ecumenical. Your whole family can come, even if you’re atheist or non-religious. All are welcome!

Celestial glory is prophesied to be right here on earth if we choose. If we want heaven, we have to build it right here at home with our families—in our communities. Indeed, exhalation is a communal endeavor. Heaven isn’t a faraway place. In Mormonism, heaven is a place of our own creation according to our desires. If we want the highest degree of celestial glory, we must cooperate and work together to make earth the heaven it was prophesied to be.

As a queer woman, heaven was a painful notion for me. It meant I would no longer be me, or risk being cut off from my family. Upon expressing my concerns, my cousin Molly assured me, “Blaire, heaven isn’t heaven without you there too.” Be like Molly. Pull your family a little closer, hold your loved ones as they are, and assure them they are an essential part of your heaven.

That’s how we begin to make earth the heaven it was prophesied to be.
