The Queers are on Parade

Wake up and open those little eyes.
Dry your tears. There’s no need to cry.
I’ll show you truth beyond the lies.
Grab your wings―its time to fly.

Look outside and believe what you’re seeing.
Legions of queers are marching and singing,
loving, dancing, celebrating, and being.
Standing together, more than just dreaming.

The queers are in the streets―
wavin’ flags to poppin’ beats.
It’s safe to come out, just follow your feet.
Life is calling and it tastes sweet.

It’s time to let the old ways die.
We got a holy love on our side.
Pay no mind to the haters on the side―
They’re just mad we no longer have to hide.

Papa’s got your hand. Mama’s got a plan.
Your body is no longer banned.
Today we proclaim across the land
that queerness is something grand.

Come on out and unfurl your rainbow flag,
Dusk your face like the ladies in drag.
Bodies covered in sequence and shag.
Tonight I’m raisin’ a glass to all the fags!

One foot in front of the other―
marching with queer fathers and mothers.
Linking arms with siblings, sisters, and brothers,
because “family” means loving each other.

The queers are on parade.
We are glorious and unafraid.
Our smiles will never fade.
After all has been said and weighed―
Bi, trans, pan, ace, queer, or gay―
we celebrate you today.
